Counseling for new mothers, soon-to-be moms, and hope-to-be moms
Trying to Conceive: A rollercoaster of hope.
Trying to conceive is a roller coaster of extreme emotions. Something that for many is so simple can be for others, so very complicated. The entire experience can be exhausting. It’s not fair and it’s not easy.
Counseling for hope-to-be mothers can provide you the opportunity and space to process all of the crazy and extreme feelings you are experiencing – fear, joy, hope, desire, longing, anger, and jealousy.
Fertility Treatment: Science and miracles.
Fertility treatment comes with unique challenges…
- Testing (poking and prodding, blood draws)
- Endless doctors appointments
- Waiting
- Conversations with friends and family (some awkward, some difficult, all emotionally draining)
- Financial decisions and financial hardship
- Relationship and intimacy issues (fertility treatments can suck the fun right out of sex)
- Partners feeling broken, resentful, or used.
When trying to make your way through all these challenges you may feel a bit like an American Ninja Warrior fighting like hell but never quite making it to the end. Counseling can be a time and space of reprieve from the insanity of treatments and doctors appointments. Give me a call and let’s talk about how counseling can help you during this challenging time.
Perinatal Loss: Heartbreak times infinity.
The death of a baby in utero or shortly after birth is a tragic and heart breaking loss. Unfortunately, it is also a common experience and while many women experience it, few women experience it exactly the same. Women who experience a miscarriage may feel angry, hopeless, and alone. They may suffer tremendous physical pain and/or tremendous emotional pain. It is important to note that, due to cultural and social norms, some women feel they can’t talk about their grief and loss with their friends or family. Blue Counseling offers women and mothers a place to share their experience and seek healing and renewal.
Postpartum Depression and Anxiety: You are not alone, you are not to blame, and with help you will be well.
Some symptoms of Postpartum Depression and Anxiety:
- Anger and irritation
- Loss of appetite
- Feeling overwhelmed
- Loss of focus or concentration
- Feeling isolated or alone
- Impulsive thoughts
- Thoughts of self harm
- Trouble sleeping
One in seven mothers experience some form of Postpartum Depression and Anxiety, or PPDA. About 40% of these women experience the onset of their symptoms while they are still pregnant and onset can begin anytime up to four years after the birth of the baby. This is a serious condition that may be overlooked by doctors, OBGYNs, pediatricians, family, and partners. Through counseling for mothers, I can help you make sense of your experiences, identify your resources, and find ways to cope. Call today to make an appointment.
